Alcohol is the ingredient found in beer, wine and spirits that causes drunkenness. Alcohol is a drug, a highly addictive one.
According to the WHO, the average age at which drinking alcohol first occurs is 12 years. By the age of 15, about 80% of young people drink regularly.
A study published in the Lancet found that across the globe, rate of individual alcohol consumption have increased by 70%. between 1990 and 2017.
Christians today have wide and divergent views on drinking and its acceptability in the life of a Christian.
The attitude towards drinking has a lot to do with the culture of the Christian as well as the type of church. The more traditional churches are very strict and drinking is not allowed as a law, but we do know that Christians are not free from the love of alcohol and drink in secret.
Then we have churches that actually allow their congregations to drink, and even pastors in the church are allowed to drink.
